Following SSU investigation, member of GRU intelligence network sentenced to 15 years in prison for adjusting air strikes on Dnipro in January 2023

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, another enemy agent who directed russian air strikes on Dnipro has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator was part of a network of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’), which the SSU exposed in January 2023 in the regional centre.

The enemy accomplice is the head of a local commercial entity who was recruited by the enemy.

After being recruited to collaborate with the GRU, he passed on the geolocations of strategically important targets to the enemy. The ruscists used the data to prepare missile and drone strikes.

The ‘targets’ included railway bridges and key electrical substations that supply most of the frontline city.

The traitor also tracked the combat positions of the Ukrainian air defence forces protecting the region’s airspace.

Hoping to identify military installations, the asset drove around the city and its outskirts.

He passed the intelligence he gathered to russia via a resident agent – a former Dnipro resident who had moved to russia back in 2014 and began collaborating with the russian intelligence.

The SSU detained the agent at his home after he had conducted further reconnaissance near a potential target.

A smartphone containing evidence of his work for the GRU was seized from the detainee during the search.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under Articles 28.2 and 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy, under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
