Following SSU investigation, enemy agent sentenced to 15 years in prison for guiding russian attacks at Lyman

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, another spotter who guided russian strikes on the Donetsk region has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property. He is a former chief engineer of a local locomotive depot who directed enemy fire at Lyman.

It has been established that, following his recruitment, the asset took up residence in the basement of a block of flats in the frontline town to ensure his own safety whilst directing the shelling of the community.

The SSU detained the agent in May this year in Sloviansk.

According to the investigation, the former employee of Ukrainian Railways came to the attention of the russian intelligence through an acquaintance – a ‘deputy of the donetsk people’s republic’ in the temporarily occupied part of the region.

The traitor surveyed Lyman and its suburbs to identify Defence Forces bases, which the enemy was targeting with guided aerial bombs and artillery.

The perpetrator marked potential ‘targets’ on Google Maps and then sent screenshots of these via a messaging app to his handler in russia.

During searches of the premises, a smartphone was seized that contained evidence of the suspect’s reconnaissance activities and contacts with the enemy.

Based on evidence, the court found the spotter guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
