Following SSU investigation, traitor sentenced to 15 years in prison for plotting terrorist attacks in Kyiv

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’), exposed by the SSU in June 2025 whilst preparing bombings in Kyiv, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and confiscation of property.

The SSU caught the perpetrator ‘red-handed’ as he was digging up a cache of explosives, which he was to transport to other hiding places for the executors of the terrorist attacks.

At the scene, 5 kg of plastic explosive, along with detonators and other components for assembling improvised bombs, were seized from the detainee.

As the investigation revealed, russia’s task was carried out by a local unemployed man.

He first came to the attention of the russian GRU back in 2014, when he was fighting against the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces in eastern Ukraine as part of the ‘Iskra-2’ terrorist group.

At that time, he took part in the battles for Donetsk Airport, and later, after being recruited, was smuggled illegally into territory controlled by Ukraine.

In the spring of 2025, the GRU ‘activated’ their agent and instructed him to set up several caches with improvised explosive devices on the outskirts of Kyiv.

Once the caches had been set up, the traitor was to send the locations of the hiding places to his handler in russia using markers on Google Maps.

In addition to the explosives, a tablet, a laptop and mobile phones were seized from the suspect; he had used them to communicate with the GRU.

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.
