Following SSU investigation, traitor who adjusted enemy attacks on Cherkasy region sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, an FSB agent, detained in April this year for adjusting enemy fire on Cherkasy oblast, has been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
At that time, the SSU Counterintelligence caught him red-handed while he was spying near the perimeter of a local Defence Forces facility.
The investigation established that the agent was conducting reconnaissance near a potential target for which the aggressor was preparing an air strike.
According to the investigation, russia’s task was carried out by a 42-year-old displaced man from Bakhmut, who moved to this region of Ukraine in the autumn of 2022 and later began working for russia’s federal security service.
He came to the attention of the russian intelligence when he was looking for easy money on Telegram. After recruitment, the individual drove around the region trying to locate Ukrainian radar stations and anti-aircraft missile systems.
The enemy needed this information to evade Ukrainian air defences during a new series of missile and drone strikes.
The perpetrator also attempted to adjust a combined attack on a local Territorial Recruitment Centre. To do this, he arrived at the TRC building under the pretext of updating his own military register data and from there sent his geolocation to the FSB.
The agent’s smartphone, which he used to collect intelligence and contact his handler, was seized during the search.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
