Following SSU investigation, traitor who helped ruscists conduct offensive on Sumy oblast sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, another enemy agent who spied in Sumy region has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The agent is a 47-year-old resident of the border region recruited by the FSB. He passed the intelligence on the locations of the Defence Forces to the occupiers at the beginning of the full-scale war.
The SSU Counterintelligence detained the perpetrator in the summer of 2022, when he was preparing to conduct reconnaissance near the fortified areas of the northern borders of Sumy oblast.
The traitor came to the attention of russia’s federal security service during his work trips to russia even before 24 February 2022.
After the start of the full-scale aggression, an FSB officer contacted the man and gave him reconnaissance tasks.
To carry them out, the agent walked in the border area, tracked the positions of Ukrainian defenders, marked them on Google Maps, and reported to his handler.
The ruscists used the obtained intelligence for artillery and air strikes on the bases and routes of the Defence Forces.
The FSB subsequently planned to use its asset to carry out sabotage in the north-eastern region of Ukraine.
Half a kilogram of explosives and mobile phones, which the spy used to contact the occupiers, were seized during searches.
In the process of documenting his crimes, it was also discovered that he had been spreading pro-kremlin propaganda among his fellow villagers.
The court found the accused guilty under the Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives);
- 436-2.1 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of the russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Sumy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
