Following SSU investigation, FSB agent sentenced to 15 years in prison for spying in Mykolaiv
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another FSB agent who gathered intelligence on the Defence Forces in Mykolaiv oblast has been convicted to prison.
The perpetrator tried to establish accurate coordinates of a Ukrainian unit defending the city.
Primarily, he was interested in geolocations of fortifications and firing positions of the AFU units.
The aggressor needed the intelligence to prepare targeted air attacks with Shahed-type kamikaze drones.
The SSU detained the agent in February 2023 when he tried to pass collected intelligence to the occupiers.
After the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The traitor is a resident of Vradiyivka village, recruited by the FSB through the banned social network Vkontakte.
He came to the attention of the russian intelligence service as an active user of russian Internet resources, where he wrote comments in support of the aggressive war against Ukraine.
Communication was carried out through a ‘liaison’ in the temporarily occupied territory in eastern Ukraine.
To execute the FSB’s assignments, the asset drove around the area in his car and covertly recorded the ‘targets’ on his phone camera.
During the searches of his home, computer equipment and a phone with evidence of reconnaissance and sabotage activities against Ukraine were seized.
The court found the accused guilty under three Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 110.1 (encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability);
- 436-2.2, 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Mykolaiv Office jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Pervomaisk District Prosecutor’s Office.
