Following SSU investigation, traitor who installed GPS tracker for russian attack on Rivne NPP power lines convicted to 15 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent who was preparing russia’s attack on high-voltage power lines of Rivne Nuclear Power Plant has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The SSU Counterintelligence apprehended the traitor in May 2025 when he attempted to install a GPS tracker on one of the main power line towers.

The occupiers planned to use the beacon’s coordinates to launch drone strikes on energy infrastructure to cut off power to part of Ukraine’s northern regions.

The investigation established that the attack was guided by a former employee of Rivne NPP’s maintenance department who had been recruited by the enemy.

The agent initially scouted the perimeter of the high-voltage lines, evading the security posts of the restricted facility.

Later, following his russian handler instructions, he purchased a GPS tracker and approached the target site to install it.

The GPS device and a smartphone with evidence of his contacts with russian intelligence services was seized when the perpetrator was caught red-handed.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under Article 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Rivne region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
