Following SSU investigation, traitor who used drone to guide russian strikes at Khmelnytskyi region sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent, who was exposed in February 2025 while directing shelling of the Khmelnytskyi region, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and confiscation of property.
According to the investigation, a local conscript, recruited by the enemy, was responsible for guiding russian strikes at targets.
The investigation revealed that the traitor carried out tasks assigned by his handler from russia’s federal security service (‘FSB’). To communicate with him anonymously, he used the banned social network VKontakte and Telegram.
Lured by the promise of ‘easy’ money, the man agreed to track the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, electricity substations, and railway facilities, all of which were being targeted by the aggressor.
To identify these sites for the enemy, the spotter used drones assigned to his military unit.
Additionally, the agent purchased a quadcopter and a 4G camera, installing it opposite a major railway junction and setting up remote access for the FSB.
The ruscists hoped that this would enable them to track the timetable and routes of freight trains in real time.
The SSU caught the agent ‘red-handed’ as he launched a drone to conduct reconnaissance near a Ukrainian facility.
A car from which he had been launching reconnaissance drones and a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the FSB were found during searches.
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty of high treason under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Office in the Khmelnytskyi region under the procedural supervision of the Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office in the Western Region.
