Following SSU investigation, traitor who leaked defence line locations near Kharkiv to enemy sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by cybersecurity units and SSU investigators, an FSB agent, detained by the SSU in May 2025 in Kharkiv, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation established that the perpetrator gathered intelligence for russian airstrikes on fortifications and backup command posts of the defenders of the frontline city.
To carry out the aggressor’s tasks, he took a job as a handyman at a construction company building defensive lines near Kharkiv.
Posing as a contractor’s employee, the agent marked the geolocations of fortified areas on Google Maps and photographed the military facilities there.
The spy also studied methods of camouflage and levels of protection of the defensive structures against combat weapons.
He transmitted the collected data via a messaging app to a handler from the 9th directorate of the operational information department of the FSB’s 5th service. The agent regularly deleted his texting with the russian intelligence officer.
However, this did not prevent SSU cyber units from uncovering and documenting the hostile intelligence activities at an early stage. After ensuring the security of the Defence Forces’ locations, the SSU apprehended the agent at his home, where he was preparing a new report for the FSB.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice turned out to be a local handyman who came to the attention of russia’s federal security service on Telegram channels while seeking ‘easy money’.
The investigation also revealed that the traitor had called the occupiers to launch a second attack on the local heat and power plant.
A smartphone, which he used to coordinate his actions with his FSB handler, was seized during the search.
Based on evidence collected by the SSU, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Kharkiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
