Following SSU investigation, arsonist who acted on russia’s orders sentenced to 15 years in prison and payment of UAH 1 mln in damages
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, an enemy agent who carried out arson attacks in Kyiv has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property and compensation for damages amounting to almost UAH 1 million.
His main target was relay cabinets along the main lines of Ukrainian railways in the capital.
The investigation established that the enemy orders were carried out by a 33-year-old Kyiv resident who, after serving a sentence for theft, began cooperating with the russian special services.
The repeat offender came to russia’s attention when he was looking for easy money on Telegram.
On ruscists’ instructions, the arsonist found a relay cabinet that ensures uninterrupted movement of trains through Kyiv region.
The perpetrator then poured a flammable mixture on the railway equipment, set it on fire, filmed the resulting fire on camera, and reported to his handler.
The law enforcement detained him in hot pursuit within a few hours after the arson in November 2024.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU investigators, the court found the accused guilty under Article 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed under martial law).
Efforts are underway to bring to justice those who ordered the crime and are currently in russia.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
