Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent, exposed in May 2025 while guiding russian attacks on the Lviv region, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and confiscation of property.

The investigation revealed that the unemployed local resident had been recruited by russia’s federal security service after he posted anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram chats.

The agent tracked the locations of military air bases in the western region, which the aggressor state intended to target with air strikes.

The perpetrator drove around the area in his car to identify airfields that could potentially be used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ air force and pass on their coordinates to the FSB.

During reconnaissance, he took photos of sites with geographic referencing and marked their geolocations on Google Maps to include in a ‘report’ to his handler.

He then planned to set up a hidden video camera in the forest with remote access for the FSB, which would have had a view of the potential ‘target’.

The ruscists hoped to use the video trap to monitor the presence of military equipment in real time and launch a missile and drone strike against it.

However, the SSU identified the traitor at an early stage of his espionage activities and detained him.

A smartphone containing evidence of his contacts with the FSB in an anonymous messenger chat was seized during the search. He regularly deleted messages from this chat after each session of covert communication.

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty of high treason under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
