Following SSU investigation, traitor to spend 15 years behind bars for arson and derailment attempt

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service investigators, another enemy agent has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. The SSU detained him for committing acts of sabotage in Dnipropetrovsk region in July 2025.

The investigation established that the perpetrator set fire to Ukrzaliznytsia relay cabinets and attempted to derail a freight train.

By resorting to sabotage, the russians hoped to disrupt transport logistics through the frontline region of Ukraine.

The occupiers’ task was carried out by a 25-year-old track fitter from the regional branch of the Ukrainian Railways, who was recruited by russia through a Telegram channel offering ‘easy money’.

After receiving instructions from his russian handler, the saboteur began to track down potential ‘targets’ for arson.

He then purchased a flammable mixture, which he used to destroy two relay cabinets and a transformer on a local railway line.

Subsequently, the agent was instructed to cause a train accident using a so-called ‘rail shoe’ or derailer, which he was to install on the tracks while a freight train was moving.

The SSU foiled this plot and detained the agent on the eve of the planned sabotage.

A smartphone with evidence of his work for the enemy, as well as canisters of fuel that he used to destroy the relay cabinets, were seized during the search.

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, the court found the accused guilty under Article 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
