SSU evidence leads to 15.5-year sentence for repeat offender who aided russian attacks on Khmelnytskyi region
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, a repeat offender who guided russian strikes on Khmelnytskyi region has been sentenced to 15.5 years in prison, with confiscation of property.
The individual, a local resident with a prior conviction for drug-related offences, was detained by the SSU in September 2024. Investigators determined that he acted as an agent for russian intelligence, assisting in targeting and sabotage operations within the region.
According to the investigation, the asset was recruited through Telegram channels while seeking ‘easy money’. After initial contact, he was assigned test tasks, including tracking and photographing vehicles used by Ukrainian military personnel.
He later conducted reconnaissance across Khmelnytskyi, identifying potential backup command posts and locations where servicemen were stationed.
In addition to gathering intelligence, the agent carried out acts of sabotage. He set fire to a relay cabinet on a Ukrzaliznytsia railway line and recorded the fire on video, which he sent to his handler in russia.
The SSU apprehended the suspect a short while after the arson. A search of his belongings revealed a smartphone containing recorded coordinates of Ukrainian Defence Forces positions, documentation of the sabotage, and communication logs with russian handlers.
A cryptocurrency wallet intended to receive payment for his activities was also uncovered. However, no funds were ever transferred.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found the accused guilty under the Articles of the CCU:
- 113.2 (sabotage, committed under martial law);
- 114-2.2 (unauthorised dissemination of information on the movement, deployment, or location of the AFU).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Khmelnytskyi region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
