Following SSU investigation, repeat offender sentenced to 17 years in prison for arson on russia’s behalf

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, another enemy agent has been convicted to prison. He was detained for arson in Kharkiv in July 2024. The perpetrator destroyed three relay cabinets of Ukrainian Railways.

The investigation established that russia’s task was carried out by a local repeat offender who had served a sentence for attempted murder and robbery.

As he was on probation after his previous crime, he has now been sentenced to 17 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The individual came to the attention of russian intelligence special services when he was looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram after his release from prison.

After recruitment, he received instructions from his russian handler: to identify railway automation facilities and destroy them using a flammable mixture.

By sabotage, the aggressor state hoped to disrupt the logistics of the Defence Forces and complicate the transportation of supplies to the front lines.

The arsonist first broke the metal doors of the relay cabinets with a crowbar, then poured flammable liquid on the electrical equipment and set it on fire.

The SSU Counterintelligence detained the saboteur when he was burning railway equipment on one of the tracks in Kharkiv and filming it on video for a report to the occupiers.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under Article 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
