Following SSU’s investigation, militants who shelled residential areas in Luhansk oblast sentenced to 10 years in prison
The SSU systematically brings to justice members of russian occupation troops.
As a result of an investigation, the SSU collected irrefutable evidence proving the guilt of another two militants, who joined russia’s occupation groupings at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
The persons in question served in the units of russia’s Southern military district and took an active part in storming Ukrainian towns on the eastern front.
Both militants were captured last year during Ukraine’s counteroffensive in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court sentenced them to 9 and 10 years in prison.
One of the convicted individuals had been fighting against the ATO forces since 2014. Serving in the so-called ‘zarya’ battalion, he was involved in shelling residential areas of Luhansk.
After February 24, 2022, the militant participated in warfare against the Ukrainian Defence Forces near Bakhmut, where was captured.
The other convict joined the so-called ‘state protection service of the LNR’ in 2016.
At the beginning of the full-scale aggression, he was transferred to russia’s 2nd army corps, where commanded the enemy units during shelling of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk.
While trying to gain foothold near Bilohorivka in Luhansk region, the ‘serviceman’ was captured by the Ukrainian military along with his subordinates.
The court found the accused guilty under the two Articles of the CCU:
- 110.2 (encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability);
- 260.2 (participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed groups).
The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the pre-trial investigation under the supervision of Luhansk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
