Following SSU investigation, two foreign nationals sentenced to 12 years in prison for arson attacks in western Ukraine on russia’s orders
Two enemy agents who carried out arson attacks in the western regions of Ukraine have been sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property, based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine.
In November 2025, the SSU exposed and arrested both suspects in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, red-handed.
The investigation revealed that the enemy tasks were carried out by two 27-year-old citizens of a neighbouring European country.
According to the investigation, they were spotted by russian intelligence while they were outside Ukraine. One of the men was recruited via Telegram messaging app after posting comments in support of russia’s armed aggression.
Subsequently, the agent recruited his acquaintance to join him. The assets were sent to Ukraine together to carry out sabotage.
Upon arrival in Ukraine, the perpetrators settled in a hotel on the outskirts of Chernivtsi. The very next day, they set fire to a local administrative building and sent a video of the attack to their handler in russia.
Next, they planned to set fire to a village council building in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Smartphones and other items confirming their collaboration with the enemy were seized during searches at the scene of the incidents and at the hotel where the arsonists were staying.
Based on the evidence, the court found both accused guilty of committing a terrorist act as part of a group under Article 258.2 of the CCU.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Chernivtsi Office, in conjunction with the National Police and under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
