SSU investigation leads to sentencing of FSB agents for attempted breakthrough of sabotage and reconnaissance groups in Sumy region
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, two FSB agents who were preparing a breakthrough by russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups in the direction of Sumy in the spring of 2025 have been convicted to imprisonment.
The Security Service detained both perpetrators at one of the region’s checkpoints as they were returning from a reconnaissance mission near a military installation.
By scouting the location, the agents attempted to finalise the route for the enemy saboteurs to pass from Bryansk region, russia, deep into Ukrainian territory, away from Ukraine’s Defence Forces positions.
Now, one of the perpetrators has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a series of crimes. He is a 60-year-old russian citizen who lived in Sumy region and already had a conviction for spreading pro-kremlin propaganda.
The individual was recruited by russia’s federal security service through his relatives in russia. After a short training, he began tracking the coordinates of checkpoints and backup command posts of the Defence Forces.
He involved his 61-year-old neighbour in the crime. Now, the latter has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The SSU documented how the enemy assets travelled around the border area under the pretext of fishing trips and secretly recorded military installations.
The russian citizen then passed on the information he had gathered to his FSB handler in the form of voice messages.
Based on the Service’s investigation, the court found both accused guilty of crimes under three Articles of the CCU:
- 114-2.3 (unauthorised dissemination of information on the transfer, movement of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU, committed under martial law);
- 110.2 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);
- 436-2.2 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Sumy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
