Following SSU investigation, enemy saboteur who tried to derail AFU echelons in Bukovyna sentenced to life imprisonment

The Security Service of Ukraine has sent to court an indictment against an enemy agent who committed sabotage on Ukrainian railways in Vinnytsia and Chernivtsi regions. He now faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The SSU detained the saboteur in October 2024 when he was preparing to blow up a railway track and derail a freight train in Bukovyna.

In this way, the occupiers hoped to disrupt transport logistics of the Defense Forces in the southwestern regions of Ukraine.

The perpetrator is a citizen of one of the European countries, who had received professional knowledge of explosives engineering at a university of the russian ministry of emergency.

After the start of the full-scale war, the foreigner arrived in Ukraine on his handler’s orders and spied on military trains under the cover of tourist trips.

He was then tasked with manufacturing improvised explosive devices to plant them under railway tracks in Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia oblasts.

For secrecy, the agent regularly changed hotels after arriving in Ukraine.

The SSU documented the saboteur’s crimes and detained him on a Bukovyna motorway. An IED and a mobile phone with evidence of his work for the occupiers were found during the search of his car.

The investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Article 113.2 of the CCU – sabotage committed under martial law.

Further, the documentation of the agent’s subversive activities continued. This helped to prevent new attempts by the occupiers to carry out sabotage against Ukraine.

The investigation was conducted under the procedural supervision of Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia region prosecutor’s offices.
