Following SSU and SBI’s investigation, former law enforcement officer sentenced to life imprisonment for working for FSB

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU and the State Bureau of Investigations, an agent of russia’s FSB, who operated in Kharkiv oblast, has been convicted to prison.

The perpetrator provided the aggressor with data on locations of military and critical infrastructure of the frontline region.

Using his coordinates, the occupiers repeatedly launched missile and artillery strikes on Ukrainian targets.

The SSU Counterintelligence detained the traitor in May 2022 at a checkpoint in the region.

Three combat grenades and a mobile phone, which he used to communicate with the FSB, were found in his vehicle.

Following an investigation by the SSU and the SBI, the court sentenced the offender to life imprisonment.

The convict is a former operative of a local police unit, who was in office when russia launched its full-scale invasion.

At that time, he was recruited remotely by an officer of the FSB’s unit in Belgorod region.

For recruitment, the occupiers used his brother in russia, a former serviceman of the russian special purpose unit Omon.

The enemy agent was tasked with identifying temporary bases of the Armed Forces, Security Service, National Police and National Guard.

He also tried to establish coordinates of local enterprises repairing military equipment for Ukrainian defenders.

Having his information, the invaders carried out targeted strikes using long-range artillery and combat aircraft.

After the shelling, the spy would go to the area to identify what was hit by the shelling.

To gather intelligence, the traitor drove a service vehicle with a special pass, which allowed him to avoid inspection at checkpoints and take covert photos of important facilities.

He passed the data to his brother from russia, who was in direct contact with the FSB.

Based on the evidence, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 263.1 (possession of ammunition, without a permit).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations under the procedural supervision of Kharkiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
