Based on SSU, NABU and SAPO investigation, Ukrainian MP, caught on USD 85,000 bribe for land lease, sentenced to four years in prison
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the NABU, and the SAPO, the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the prison sentence for a Ukrainian MP who was caught in land deals. The member of parliament has been sentenced to four years in prison.
In August 2023, law enforcement caught him red-handed while receiving USD 85,000 bribe.
The investigation revealed that the official promised a Kyiv businessman to transfer state-owned land plots belonging to the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine to him for cultivation in exchange for this sum of money.
To resolve the land issue, the parliamentarian ‘guaranteed’ the businessman that he would use his personal connections in state institutions.
Based on the investigation by the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the Appeals Chamber of the HACC found the accused guilty of abuse of influence (Article 369-2.2 of the CCU).
In addition to the prison sentence, the court disqualified him from standing for election to state and local government bodies and being appointed to civil service positions for a period of three years and confiscated all his property.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
