Following SSU investigation, GRU agent receives new sentence for blowing up Ukrainian serviceman’s car and setting fire to railway equipment
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, another conviction has been handed down to a member of a hit squad of russian military intelligence that the SSU dismantled in Kharkiv region in the summer of 2024.
At the time, all four members of the cell were detained. They had blown up a Ukrainian serviceman’s car, leaving him seriously injured.
Based on the SSU’s investigation in August 2026, the offender was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The perpetrator has now received an additional 15-year prison sentence for setting fire to two Ukrzaliznytsia railway signal cabinets.
As has been established, the GRU had recruited the asset, a manual laborer from the outskirts of Kharkiv, to carry out the task.
He came to the attention of russia’s military intelligence through an acquaintance from Donetsk, who is a member of the so-called ‘DPR special forces’ and cooperates with the ruscists.
The investigation established that, to set fire to the railway signal cabinets, the traitor purchased a flammable mixture and subsequently poured it over the electrical equipment.
Based on new evidence of the agent’s sabotage activities, the court found him guilty under Articles 15.2 and 113.2 of the CCU (attempted sabotage under martial law).
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Office in the Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
