Following SSU investigation, Medvedchuk’s media associate Kyrylo Molchanov to stand trial and face life sentence

The Security Service has completed its pre-trial investigation and sent an indictment to court against Kyrylo Molchanov, a ‘political expert’ from Viktor Medvedchuk’s media pool. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property for treason and justifying russia’s armed aggression.

Molchanov is accused of conducting information sabotage against Ukraine on behalf of russia’s federal security service and foreign intelligence service.

As the investigation established, after working for Medvedchuk’s sanctioned TV channels, Molchanov left for moscow in 2022.

He became one of the key participants in the kremlin’s media projects the Other Ukraine and Voice of Europe; putin entrusted Medvedchuk with managing these projects under the control of russian special services.

Under their coordination, the ‘political expert’ regularly appeared on kremlin propaganda channels to support russia’s armed aggression and spread fake news about the situation in Ukraine.

On moscow’s orders, he also organised rallies in the cities of EU countries, calling for an end to international support for Ukraine.

Simultaneously, he used Telegram and YouTube to spread disinformation, trying to destabilise the situation in Ukraine’s partner countries.

Based on evidence collected by SSU investigators, the perpetrator is charged under three Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 111-1.6 (organising and conducting political events, carrying out information activities in cooperation with the aggressor state);
  • 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants, and collaboration).

The investigation was conducted under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
