Following SSU’s investigation, russian state duma deputy chairman Babakov, owner of one of Ukrainian energy companies, notified of suspicion

Based on the SSU’s investigation, SBI investigators under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office served a notice of suspicion to the deputy chairman of the state duma of russia Oleksandr Babakov. This official harms the sovereignty of Ukraine, contributes to russia’s military aggression and voted for the ‘admission to the russian federation’ of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

Babakov is also, along with other persons, the ultimate beneficiary of one of the energy companies operating in Ukraine. This entity manages energy infrastructure facilities in Zhytomyr, Kherson, Kirovohrad, Chernivtsi, Rivne regions and Kyiv. Recently, the SSU carried out searches in the mentioned company to prevent threats to the energy sector as this area has become a priority target for russia’s missile strikes.

putin’s henchman has been notified of suspicion in absentia under the Article 110.3 of the CCU (encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability).

The crime is punishable by 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.

Earlier, the SSU notified this russian official of suspicion in relation to another episode of his anti-Ukrainian activities. This pertained to the approval by the state duma on February 22, 2022, of the decision to use the russian armed forces on the territory of the self-proclaimed ‘L/DNR’. This document, adopted on the eve of a full-scale invasion, untied the aggressor’s hands.
