Following SSU investigation, another two traitors who fought against Ukraine sentenced to 15 years in prison

Following the investigation of the Security Service of Ukraine, two traitors who fought against Ukraine have been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. One of them received the sentence in absentia, as he is hiding in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

The investigation established that both perpetrators are Crimea residents who joined russia’s armed forces after its capture.

One is a 52-year-old resident of Simferopol who left for russia and signed a contract with the russian ministry of defence at Smolensk military enlistment office.

He was assigned to the 37th motorised rifle regiment of the aggressor state and, after a short training, was sent to attack the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Lyman sector.

In the autumn of 2024, Ukrainian defenders destroyed all the personnel of the occupiers’ assault group, and the militant was taken prisoner as the only survivor during the fighting for the village of Terny.

Another perpetrator received a sentence in absentia for treason. He is a former engineer of the technological support group of the Ukrainian Spacecraft Flight Control Centre, stationed in Yevpatoria.

After the capture of the institution in 2014, the serviceman defected to the enemy and provided the russians with full access to the secret documentation of the restricted facility.

For this, the traitor was given a russian passport and enlisted in the ranks of the russian occupation troops on the peninsula with the rank of ‘major.’

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found both accused guilty under the Articles of the CCU, according to the crimes committed:

  • 111.1, 111.2 (high treason);
  • 111-1.7 (collaboration);
  • 408.1 (desertion).

One of the convicts is in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine; efforts to bring him to justice for crimes against our state are underway.

The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Region and Zhytomyr Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region.
