Following SSU investigation, enemy agent plotting arson attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia in Cherkasy region sentenced to over 12 years in prison

Another enemy agent has been sentenced to prison based on evidence gathered by the Security Service. The SSU exposed him in July 2024 while he was planning a series of sabotage attacks in the Cherkasy region.

The investigation revealed that he had attempted to destroy the signal box relay cabinets that control train movements on one of the region’s major railway lines.

To carry out the mission, the perpetrator purchased fire-resistant gloves and a canister of flammable liquid, intending to pour it over Ukrzaliznytsia’s technical equipment and set it ablaze.

The ruscists hoped that these acts of sabotage would disrupt freight transport logistics across central Ukraine.

However, the SSU foiled the plan in time, detaining the agent as he attempted to set fire to a relay cabinet.

The order of russian intelligence was carried out by a local unemployed man who had agreed to work for the enemy in exchange for money.

He came to the enemy’s attention while searching for ‘easy money’ on Telegram.

During a search of the suspect’s premises, the tools used in the crime were seized, along with a smartphone that he had used to coordinate his subversive activities with the russians.

Based on evidence collected by the SSU, the accused was found guilty of committing sabotage under Articles 28.2, 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed by a group, acting in concert, under martial law).

Given his cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to 12 years and 1 month’s imprisonment and confiscation of property.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
