SSU investigation leads to conviction of FSB agent who set up cache with explosives for terrorist attacks in Donetsk region

The operation of the SSU Counterintelligence Department has led to conviction of an agent of Russian special services to 8 years of imprisonment. The woman is involved in preparation of a series of terrorist attacks in the JFO area.

The SSU detained the enemy agent in Donetsk region in the attempt to set up a cache with explosives.

The investigation established that the suspect was a local resident recruited by the Russian FSB to conduct reconnaissance and subversive activities against Ukraine.

The convicted belonged to one of the groups in the so-called ‘DNR’. Instructed by their handlers, the group was preparing terrorist attacks to destabilize the situation in the region.

In addition, she was gathering information on the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The militant leaders planned to use this intelligence to shell Ukrainian positions.

The court has found the accused guilty of crimes under:

  • Article 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization),
  • Article 263 (carrying, storing and acquisition of an explosive device without a permit stipulated by law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The SSU Main Directorate in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the operation and investigation under the supervision of Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
