SSU operation leads to conviction of Oplot saboteur attempting to blow up electricity substation in Eastern Ukraine
The operation of the SSU Counterintelligence has led to conviction of a member of the so-called ‘DNR’ IAF. The court sentenced him to 11 years and 10 months in prison. The criminal attempted to carry out an act of sabotage at an energy facility in the JFO area.
The SSU detained the saboteur in an attempt to blow up an electricity substation. A remotely controlled IED and communication devices were seized from the individual during the arrest.
The attempt was carried out by a resident of Donetsk region, who joined the militants in 2015 and was a member of Oplot terrorist group.
Tasked by his supervisors, the criminal covertly arrived in the government-controlled territory to commit an act of sabotage at a critical infrastructure facility. He retrieved the explosive from a cache equipped earlier by the militants.
The court found the individual guilty of crimes under:
Article 113 (sabotage),
Article 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization),
Article 263 (unlawful handling, storage and acquisition of explosive devices) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The SSU conducted the investigation under the supervision of Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
