SSU operation leads to conviction of an official involved in multimillion embezzlement
The SSU operation has led to conviction of the former director of a branch of the JSC State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine to 3,5 years of imprisonment. The official was involved in embezzlement of UAH 15 m (USD 567,751) of budget funds.
The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has found the offender guilty under part 2 Article 364 (abuse of power or official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In July this year, the SSU jointly with the NABU exposed large-scale corruption at the mentioned enterprise.
The director of one of its branches set up a corrupt scheme to steal money obtained from selling agricultural produce. The participants embezzled over 3,000 tons of grain from the state elevator and sold it through affiliated commercial companies. This led to multimillion losses to the budget.
During the pre-trial investigation, the official pleaded guilty.
The SSU Directorate for CI Protection of Economic Security carried out the operation jointly with the NABU detectives under the supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
