Following SSU and SBI investigation, FSB agent who set up video traps to guide russian strikes on Zaporizhzhia sentenced to 15 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigations, an agent of russia’s federal security service, detained in Zaporizhzhia in October 2023, has been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation established that the perpetrator directed russian missile and bomb attacks at the city and its suburbs. The spotter’s targets included temporary bases of personnel and military equipment of the Defence Forces involved in combat operations on the southern front.

To collect intelligence, the traitor installed camouflaged video cameras along a local highway with remote access for the enemy service.

The SSU caught him red-handed when he approached a recently installed video trap to find out why there was no online connection with the occupiers.

According to the investigation, the enemy’s task was carried out by a 51-year-old local draft evader who was hiding from mobilisation and working for the FSB. He came to their attention when he posted comments on Telegram offering russia his help in the war against Ukraine.

After this ‘offer’, the administrator of one of the pro-kremlin groups put the man in direct contact with the FSB.

A smartphone with evidence of working for the aggressor state was seized from the detainee during the search.

Another webcam was also found on the agent. He planned to install it at a new surveillance location.

Based on the investigation by SSU and the SBI, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law). The court’s verdict is now final.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region jointly with investigators from the State Bureau of Investigations under the procedural supervision of the Zaporizhzhia Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office.
