Following SSU and National Police investigations, two FSB agents sentenced to prison: one of them attempted to blow up police officers in downtown Kyiv

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service and the National Police, another two enemy agents who committed terrorist attacks and arson in Kyiv have been convicted to prison. They acted separately and were detained at the end of 2024.

The perpetrators are residents of Kyiv region, recruited by russia’s federal security service on Telegram channels offering easy money.

One of them is a 43-year-old repeat offender who had already served six sentences for robbery, theft, and escape from a correctional colony.

This time, he was executing an FSB order to carry out a terrorist attack against a police patrol in Kyiv.

To commit the crime, he set up a booby trap with an F-1 combat grenade in a rented apartment in the center of the capital. Then, a hoax call was made to 102 about alleged domestic violence at this address.

The other is a 42-year-old car mechanic from a service station in the capital who set fire to two Ukrainian Armed Forces SUVs and a Ukrposhta post office. To do this, he siphoned petrol from his customers’ cars and then synthesized flammable mixtures.

Based on the evidence, the court found the accused guilty of crimes under several Articles of the CCU, according to the offences committed:

  • 258.2 (terrorist act);
  • 27.2, 28.2, 113.2 (complicity in committing sabotage, upon prior conspiracy, by a group, under martial law);
  • 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives);
  • 27.2, 28.2, 114-1.1 (complicity in obstructing the lawful activities of the AFU, upon prior conspiracy, by a group, during a special period);
  • 15.2, 27.2, 28.2, 194.2 (completed attempt to intentionally destroy another person’s property by arson, by a group, upon prior conspiracy).

Given their cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced the enemy agents to 10 and 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigations were carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
