Following SSU’s investigation, court sentences another 4 militants captured near Bakhmut and Vuhledar to prison terms
The SSU is systemically bringing to justice members of the occupation forces of the aggressor state.
As a result of investigations, the SSU collected substantiated evidence proving the guilt of another 4 militants who fought against Ukraine in the units of the Southern military district of the russian armed forces.
Ukrainian defenders took them prisoner during battles near Bakhmut and Vuhledar.
Based on the SSU’s investigations, the court sentenced one of the accused to 10 years and the other three to 12 years in prison.
One of the convicts is the commander of a motorized rifle platoon of russia’s 2nd army corps.
Since 2014, he had participated in warfare against the ATO forces, and after the start of the large-scale invasion gave orders to shell Ukrainian towns in the east from Pion self-propelled cannons.
Another militant took part in assault operations to storm settlements in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts after February 24, 2022.
Another invader convicted served in the 5th separate motorized rifle brigade Oplot and participated in attempts to seize the village of Velyka Novosilka.
A militant who had been a member of the ‘reconnaissance directorate of the DNR’s republican guard’ since 2014 also received a prison term.
As a terrorist, he guarded russian prisons where resistance members were illegally detained. After the full-scale invasion, the militant attacked Ukrainian towns on the eastern front.
Based on the evidence collected, the court found the accused guilty under four Articles of the CCU:
- 111 (high treason);
- 110 (encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability);
- 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization);
- 260 (participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed groups not provided for by law).
The SSU emphasizes the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
