Following SSU’s investigation, court in Kyiv region sentences another bribe-taking judge to prison

Following the SSU and NABU’s investigation, the court sentenced a judge of Baryshivskyi District Court of Kyiv region to 8.5 years in prison. The decision was made by a panel of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court.

The judge was found guilty under the Article 368 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official).

In addition to the prison term, the court deprived the convict of the right to hold positions in public bodies for 3 years and confiscated all his property.

In 2017, the SSU documented the judge extort USD 2,500 and half a million UAH from a local resident. For this amount, the head of the court ‘guaranteed’ the man a positive decision in court cases on debt collection.

The law enforcement detained the official red-handed when he received the first part of the bribe.

In line with the law, the verdict may be appealed within 30 days from the date of its announcement by filing an appeal through the High Anti-Corruption Court to the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court.

The operation and investigation were carried out under the supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
