Following SSU investigation, retired foreign military instructor sentenced to prison for working for russia’s FSB
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, another agent of russia’s federal security service has been sentenced to a prison term. The perpetrator is a former military instructor from a European country who was recruited by russia.
The SSU detained him in October 2025 at his temporary home.
As the investigation established, the agent provided information on the Ukrainian Defence Forces to the occupiers and was preparing to carry out terrorist attacks.
The foreign national has professional knowledge of firearms and tactical training. In early 2024, he arrived in our country to train mobilised personnel.
However, he soon quit this job and began looking for ‘easy money’ in pro-kremlin online communities. There, an FSB officer contacted him and offered cooperation.
After the recruitment, the agent began passing information to the russians on foreign instructors in the Defence Forces with whom he had previously communicated.
He also prepared the coordinates of Ukrainian Armed Forces training centres in southern Ukraine – where he had once trained mobilised troops – for a ‘report’ to his handler.
Later, the foreigner got an order from the FSB to plan a series of terrorist attacks. To this end, he received instructions on how to make an improvised explosive device and the geolocation of a cache, from which he retrieved a pistol with two loaded magazines.
Having documented every move of the suspect, the SSU Counterintelligence detained him while he was in the planning stage of the ordered terrorist attacks.
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty of Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorised disclosure of information on the deployment of the AFU, committed under martial law).
Given his cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to eight and a half years in prison.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
