Following SSU investigation, FSB informant sentenced to prison for spying on Ukrainian defenders in Sumy region

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an informant of russia’s federal security service has been sentenced to prison. He was detained by the SSU Military Counterintelligence in October 2025 in Sumy region.

As the investigation established, the perpetrator was tracking the temporary bases of the Ukrainian Air Force and the flight schedules of combat helicopters.

He also collected intelligence for the FSB on the deployment of artillery units in the region. He focused primarily on the firing positions of multiple launch rocket systems and barrel artillery.

It was established that the FSB’s tasks were carried out by an employee of a local branch of Ukrzaliznytsia [Ukrainian Railways], whom the occupiers spotted when he was seeking ‘easy money’ on Telegram channels.

The SSU identified the agent at an early stage, documented his crimes, and detained him. During searches, a smartphone containing ‘reports’ to the FSB was seized from him.

The Security Service also took action to secure the locations of Ukrainian troops in areas under enemy reconnaissance.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the accused was found guilty under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorised dissemination of information on the movement, transfer or location of the AFU, committed under martial law).

The court sentenced the culprit to 8 years in prison.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Sumy Office under the procedural supervision of Sumy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
