Following SSU investigation, russian agent spying for enemy within the northern borders of Ukraine was convicted

Following evidence collected by the Security Service, russian military intelligence (better known as gru) agent who spied in the Chernihiv region in the beginning of 2025 was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with property confiscation.

The investigation established that the perpetrator had been exploring the area, recording the locations of the Defence Forces, and then sending the coordinates to the russian gru via messenger.

The enemy was most interested in the location of command and observation posts and the border guard patrol routes.

The occupiers also tried to find out the location of Ukrainian military checkpoints and logistics warehouses.

To obtain intelligence, russian military intelligence recruited a resident of the border region looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram channels.

During his ‘'raids’, he photographed military facilities and asked acquaintances about the potential locations of the Defence Forces.

Based on intelligence , the occupiers planned to map out a route for their subversive groups to pass through the locations of Ukrainian military personnel.

SSU counterintelligence officers uncovered the enemy's plan in advance and detained the traitor in spring this year. At the same time, comprehensive measures were taken to ensure the safety of our troops.

During searches, a smartphone was seized from the detainee, which he used to contact his supervisor from russian military intelligence.
