Following SSU investigation, security firm employee convicted for leaking Defense Forces locations in Kherson region to russia

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, an agent of russia’s federal security service, who tried to spy on the Defense Forces on the right bank of Kherson region, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

In the summer of 2023, the SSU apprehended the perpetrator when he was collecting intelligence on the location of the Defense Forces in the liberated region.

The detained individual was an employee of a local security firm who had come to the enemy’s attention in the early 2000s when he worked as a taxi driver in moscow.

After the start of the full-scale war, he was remotely contacted by an FSB officer and offered cooperation.

The agent was given a task: to collect information on Ukrainian defenders and pass it on to a handler in russia.

The aggressor was most interested in possible firing positions of the AFU’s multiple launch rocket systems and cannon artillery, in particular foreign M777 howitzers.

In case of collecting intelligence, the agent had to first pass it on to the occupiers and then arrive in the area of the potential target to adjust fire in real time.

For communication, he used an anonymous chat in a messenger app.

Based on the evidence collected by SSU investigators, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Chernivtsi region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
