Court sentences ‘Lutsk terrorist’, detained by SSU, to 13 years in prison
Following an investigation by the SSU, the so-called ‘Lutsk terrorist’, who in July 2020 hijacked a bus with passengers in downtown Lutsk, was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Based on the evidence collected by SSU investigators, Lutsk City and District Court of Volyn Region found Maksym Kryvosh guilty under the Articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- 258.1 (terrorist act);
- 147.2 (taking hostages);
- 259.1 (knowingly false notification about a threat to safety of citizens, destruction or damage to property);
- 263.1, 263.2 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives);
- 280.1 (forcing a transport employee to fail to perform his duties);
- 289.3 (illegal capture of a vehicle);
- 348 (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer, member of a public formation for protection of public order and state border, or a military serviceman).
To analyse all the circumstances, SSU investigators processed a large amount of information and conducted several examinations. This enabled the team to document the entire chain of actions of the accused.
We will remind that due to the special operation Boomerang, planned by the Counterterrorism Center at the SSU, the law enforcement agencies managed to prevent casualties among civilian population.
