Following SSU’s investigation, 6 russian militants who captured Mariupol and stormed Bakhmut sentenced to 15 years in prison
The SSU cyber units and investigators have collected irrefutable evidence proving the guilt of another 6 traitors who fought against Ukraine’s Defence Forces on the eastern front.
Ukrainian defenders captured them during fierce battles in May and June this year near Bakhmut and Avdiivka.
Following the SSU’s investigations, the court sentenced the perpetrators to 15 years in prison.
Most of the accused individuals joined the 1st and 2nd army corps of the Southern military district of the russian armed forces at the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion.
However, there are also traitors who were in the ranks of the terrorist organisation ‘DNR’ in 2015 and have fought against the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces in eastern Ukraine.
At that time, one of them joined the russian-controlled 9th separate marine regiment, while the other joined 'Vostok' group.
The investigation established that both perpetrators had shelled Ukrainian positions near Yasynuvata and Pisky. After 24 February 2022, they took part in capturing Mariupol.
Another four traitors were members of the so-called ‘people’s militia of the L/DNR’ and stormed Bakhmut and Krasnohorivka in Donetsk region after the invasion was launched.
Other militants fired automatic weapons at Ukrainian Armed Forces’ positions near Bilohorivka village, Luhansk region.
They also equipped russian fortifications and firing points near Avdiivka and Lysychansk.
Based on the evidence collected, the court found the militants guilty under three Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
- 260.2 (participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed groups);
- 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organisation).
The SSU emphasises the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine.
The SSU carried out the investigation under the procedural supervision of Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
