Following SSU’s investigation, four militants sentenced to prison, in particular for spying on Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, four traitors, who joined russian occupation groupings and fought against Ukraine’s Defence Forces, have been convicted to imprisonment.
Three offenders have been captured by Ukrainian defenders during heavy fighting in Donetsk region this fall.
One of the detainees was spying on the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defensive positions near Avdiivka.
A fourth militant was detained and his commander was killed near Lysychansk district. Then the invaders under the cover of russian aviation tried to storm the village of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region.
Based on the SSU materials, the court sentenced two traitors to 15 years in prison and two others to 12 years in prison, given their cooperation with the investigation.
According to the investigation, all four enemy accomplices joined the occupation units of the southern military district of the russian armed forces before February 24, 2022.
After "enrollment" in the ranks of the invaders, they were given weapons, ammunition, and russian uniforms. The traitors were then sent to training grounds in the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine for firearms and tactical courses as part of assault groups.
The investigation established that two of the offenders are residents of the captured town of Rovenky, Luhansk region, who joined the occupation forces by order of gauleiter Pasichnyk.
In the ranks of the invaders, they tried to capture Kharkiv, stormed the towns of Soledar and Sievierodonetsk, and then attacked the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Bilohorivka.
The third convicted individual is a resident of the occupied village of Novyi Svit, Donetsk region. There he "enlisted" in the "1st slavic brigade" of the 1st army corps of the aggressor country.
Since September, Russian commanders have involved the militant in reconnaissance operations near Krasnohorivka in the Avdiivka sector.
Another offender is a native of Donetsk, who from 2014 to 2015 was a member of the so-called moscow-controlled "cossack union of the don army region".
At the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion, he joined the occupiers' motorized rifle battalion and fought near Komyshuvakha, Luhansk region, and then trained "recruits" in Donetsk.
Based on the evidence collected, the court found the offenders guilty under Article 111-1, 111-2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The criminal actions of one of them were also qualified under Article 258-3.1 of the CCU (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
