In Luhansk region, SBU exposed and stopped group members, who tried to sell counterfeit components for railway.

According to intelligence, the employees of the company in the city of Popasna supply private railway enterprises with used brake system spare parts under the guise of new equipment.

The SBU documented that the fraudsters refurbished the parts from old decommissioned Ukrzaliznytsia vehicles at their industrial facilities. Afterwards, they installed used and poor quality components on rolling stock, which posed a significant risk to the safety of rail vehicles.

The criminal proceedings were initiated for misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation. During six searches of illegal production site and the residences of offenders, law enforcement officers seized equipment to counterfeit labels of manufacturing companies, computers, financial and economic documents proving illegal activities. A large number of counterfeit parts worth almost UAH 1.7 m (USD 60,715) were found as well.

The pre-trial investigation is underway.

The operation was carried out jointly with the Main Department of the National Police in Luhansk region under the procedural supervision of the Luhansk Region Prosecutor's Office.
