Luhansk region: SBU detains militants’ accomplice

SBU officers detained in Luhansk region an accomplice of militants of the so-called “LNR” illegal armed formations. 

Operatives and investigators of the special service found that in spring 2014 the resident of Sievierodonetsk collected information on moving the units of the anti-terrorist operation in Starobilskyi and Svativskyi districts. For the purpose, he engaged two sources. Offender transferred received data to the leaders of the "Army of the south-east" group to prepare sabotage acts.

More than 5 years a resident of Sievierodonetsk was hiding from Ukrainian law-enforcement officers in the territory of Russia. Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings the offender was put on a wanted list.

On January 21, 2020 the SBU officers detained the accomplice of militants at the "Taniushhivka" border crossing point, when he tried to enter the territory controlled by Ukrainian authorities on personal business.

The offender was served a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 1 Art. 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Luhansk region.
