SBU CI exposes Vostok Battalion leaders who tortured Ukrainian servicemen
The SBU CI officers exposed two DNR militants suspected of violating the laws and customs of war. The offenders put up armed resistance to the ATO / JFO servicemen, including tortures.
According to findings, in 2014 two residents of Donetsk region joined illegal armed formations. As commanders of the so-called "Vostok Battalion", they took an active part in the battles near the villages of Panteleimonivka and Betmanove.
In addition, the offenders abused prisoners, applying physical and psychological pressure, and did not provide medical care to the wounded.
Reportedly, the militant leaders are hiding from Ukrainian law enforcement agencies in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
SBU investigators served suspicion notices in absentia for encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, participation in a terrorist organization, participation in the activities of armed formations in contravention of Ukrainian laws, violation of the laws and customs of war.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
