SBU disrupts bot farm financed from aggressor country
SBU cyberexperts blocked activity of a bot farm spreading false information about our state. The illegal activity was financed from Russia. Recorded fake accounts totaled more than 5 thousand.
The SBU officers established that the offenders equipped a rented apartment in Kyiv. Special hardware and software systems were used to create and promote fake accounts in the social media to misinform the population.
The offenders acted in the interests of third parties supporting the hybrid war against Ukraine. According to masterminds, the distorted information was to influence people spreading negative sentiments in society and discredit the Ukrainian government here and abroad.
The offenders used SIM cards of Ukrainian mobile operators in their illegal activity. During searches, law enforcement officers found and seized:
- computer equipment with installed special software;
- telecommunication equipment;
- more than 3,000 SIM cards.
The pre-trial investigation into unauthorized interference in the work of computer networks is ongoing. All involved individuals are being identified for further prosecution.
The operation was conducted by the SBU Cyber Department, Investigative Division of the Solomianskyi Police Department in Kyiv under the supervision of the Kyiv Solomianskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
