The SBU blocked smuggling of precursors via Boryspil International Airport. The dealers imported it from the Middle East country. Black market price of the seized goods is almost UAH 2 m. (USD 71,428). They intended to transport 10 kg of precursor in "personal belongings".

SBU operatives established that two residents of the city of Kyiv organized illegal scheme together with accomplices from one of the Arab countries. Foreigners bought medicines in one of the major medical networks. Pretending to be tourists, the couriers then transported large consignments of illicit medicines by plane. In Ukraine, dealers sold precursors via the Internet and personal connections.

According to intelligence, the illegal business has been operating for almost six months. The couriers have imported precursors at least once a month.

Law enforcement detained three couriers with a batch of nearly 10,000 packages of medicines hidden in personal belongings. The seized pills contain almost 10 kg of finished precursor.

During the authorized searches of the offenders’ residences, the SBU confiscated about 1,000 packages of precursor-containing medicines and other evidence of illegal activity.

Within the criminal proceedings initiated for smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors or counterfeit medicines, the issue of serving suspicion notices to the offenders is being resolved.

Urgent investigative actions are underway.
