SSU prevents terrorist attack in Zaporizhzhia plotted for Security Service of Ukraine Day (video)

The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented an insidious terrorist attack, which the russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) was planning in Zaporizhzhia, a city near the frontline.

The special operation resulted in the detention of a couple of enemy agents who were preparing to detonate an improvised explosive device near a local military unit on March 25 this year – the anniversary of the SSU’s establishment.

On that day, the occupiers planned to remotely blow up the explosives together with their agents near a checkpoint of the defense facility.

The SSU identified both traitors at an early stage and detained them when they were equipping the bomb with additional destructive elements.

The suspects were apprehended in a private building located opposite the main entrance to the military unit. The enemy assets were renting the building to have an observation post and surveil the target.

To do this, they installed a hidden webcam on the window of the house and ensured remote access for the russian special service.

According to the investigation, the perpetrators are two cohabitants, a boy and a girl aged 18 and 19, who came to the GRU’s attention as they were looking for easy money on Telegram.

Components for making IEDs, a video camera and mobile phones with evidence of the crime were seized during searches.

SSU investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 28.2,111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law, upon prior conspiracy, by a group);
  • 14.1, 258.2 (preparation to commit a terrorist act).

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
