In Lviv, the SSU Counterintelligence jointly with the National Police prevented another terrorist attack of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’). The special operation resulted in the detention of two enemy agents who were planning to blow up the administrative building of a district police department.

The perpetrators were to bring an improvised explosive device hidden in a package into the state institution to carry out the attack.

At that moment, the russian special service planned to detonate the bomb remotely together with their agents.

One of the enemy assets is a 22-year-old girl from Kyiv who was looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram.

She was recruited by the GRU and given a test task – to post fake russian propaganda leaflets in the capital.

Later, the agent was sent to Lviv to prepare a terrorist attack against Ukrainian law enforcement officers. She involved her friend from Kyiv in the crime.

After arriving in the region, the terrorists received the coordinates of a cache from their handler and took an IED disguised as a fire extinguisher from that location.

Near the target, they were also going to install a hidden video camera with remote access for the russians, which was to record the movement of the agents and the consequences of the attack.

The Security Service of Ukraine uncovered both traitors at an early stage, documented their crimes and detained them as they approached the police unit with explosives.

SSU investigators notified the detainees of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Lviv region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
