In Volyn region, the SBU blocked smuggling of excisable goods to the EU. Law enforcement seized a batch of cigarettes worth almost UAH 6 m. (USD 222,222).

To conceal the illegal activities, smugglers transported goods in trucks under the guise of industrial cable. They also entered inaccurate information in the customs documentation.

SBU officers detained a truck at Yahodyn customs post. During the inspection of vehicle, officers found almost 250 boxes with foreign cigarettes hidden in 160 cable reels.

The criminal proceeding was initiated for illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation for selling purposes of excisable goods. Investigative actions are ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the offense and to prosecute people involved in the unlawful scheme.

The involvement of Volyn customs officers in illegal activities is being checked.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Volyn region jointly with Volyn Customs and Lutsk Border Guard Detachment.
