SSU medics save Ukrainian defenders’ lives in hottest spots of war –Vasyl Maliuk

The SSU Special Operations Centre ‘A’ has a unique unit of combat medics who have saved lives of hundreds of Ukrainian defenders on the front line. Over almost two years since the full-scale invasion, they have conducted a large number of surgical interventions under fire in the hottest spots of the war.

The film Combat Medics. Death Will Wait from the documentary series SSU. Special Operations of Victory is about the work of these officers.

‘These are real Special Forces men. They perform their missions in close proximity to the contact line. 10-15 kilometers from the front line, they perform complex surgical interventions and bring our brothers-in-arms back from the dead. These are God-gifted doctors,’ said the SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk.

According to him, the servicemen of the SSU’s Special Operations Centre ‘A’ have been fighting since 2014, but after the full-scale invasion, it became necessary to strengthen the medical component.

This unit of the SSU’s special purpose centre was created following the model of medical corps of the world’s best armies – of the US, France, and Germany. ‘Now we have much more practical experience on the battlefield, and, in fact, they are learning from us,’ the SSU Head emphasized.

Vasyl Maliuk noted that these combat medics save not only the officers of the SSU’s special force, but also all servicemen of the Defence Forces who need emergency medical care.

Such a medical team can quickly deploy an operation ‘room’ almost anywhere near the contact line. This enables them to save more lives: the further seriously wounded have to be transported from the battlefield, the less likely they are to survive.

The film tells the stories of two fighters who had almost no chance of survival. One of them is an anti-aircraft gunner from the AFU whose car was hit by an enemy anti-tank missile, and another - a fighter who underwent a complex heart surgery after an injury near the front line.

The information about the combat medics of the SSU’s Special Operations Centre ‘A’ is classified. International practice shows that names of these doctors, their movements and professional details have to be kept secret. Because the value of each of their lives is multiplied by hundreds of lives they have saved.

The first episode of the series SSU. Special Operations of Victory reveals the details of the SSU’s operations to destroy the Crimean Bridge. The second film shows how the snipers of the SSU Special Operations Centre ‘A’ fought for the Road of Life near Bakhmut in the spring of 2023. The third is about the destruction of a russian rear command and control point in Polissia in March 2022.
