The Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the National Police, has thwarted a series of contract killings in Kyiv. As a result of a multi-stage special operation in the capital, the agencies have neutralised an operational combat group of the russian military intelligence – the GRU – that was preparing to assassinate Ukrainian military personnel and public figures.

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. The Service exposed him in May 2025 in Kyiv region while he was attempting to derail a freight train.

The SBU CI officers stopped reconnaissance and subversive activity by FSB agent that provided military information to the enemy, and tried to blow up a critical infrastructure facility located in Rivne region.
Foreign intelligence services carry on to negatively affect the situation in Ukraine and, especially by using different criminal networks. On July 16 the SBU Head Ivan Bakanov pointed out this at the coordination meeting of heads of state law enforcement agencies, which was held in the Prosecutor General Office.
